Getting Involved

There is action and more action. “Faith without works is dead.” . . . To be helpful is our only aim. ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS , pp. 88-89

I understand that service is a vital part of recovery but I often wonder, “What can I do?” Simply start with what I have today! I look around to see where there is a need. Are the ashtrays full? Do I have hands and feet to empty them? Suddenly I’m involved! The best speaker may make the worst coffee; the member who’s best with newcomers may be unable to read; the one willing to clean up may make a mess of the bank account -yet every one of these people and jobs is essential to an active group. The miracle of service is this: when I use what I have, I find there is more available to me than I realized before.

My thoughts on January 24th Reading

To not have any down time, my sponsor made sure I got involved in my recovery, thru service work

we are many people, with many character defects, who normally would not mix and when we all come into a room for a meeting, we carry that baggage with us

I know when I first came to the halls, I did not like a lot of what I was hearing people say but then I was only hearing the real truth, from people who came to the halls before me it made me have to take a look at why I had no control over my life that they seem to have

I am responsible for my own recovery, but I have to give all the credit to God and the 12 steps I learned from people in the fellowship, who were active doing service work sharing there experiences, strength, and hopes with me, reminding me what I was like

Before I surrendered my life and will over to Gods love, care and protection seeing how the seven

deadly sins, of pride, greed, lust, anger, gluttony, envy, and Sloth were all there, I used to blame them for all my problems, I had an excuse for everything

I soon learned I had to give this program away, if I wanted to remain happy and free looking back

everyone who has walked thru our doors, is responsible for my recovery and as we say in the fellowship, God works thru people, we support one another

We are never alone, as long as we choose to live with in the principles of the twelve steps I must

remain active in my recovery and the recovery of others, God has put in my life I hope to pass the

fellowships love, kindness and forgiveness, along to others

Who come into our halls looking for that new way of life, this is how I try to give back the love God

gave me when I ask for the help, I have never regretted any time I have been in service being active in recovery, I also became active in my personal life

I hope to pass AA's love, kindness, and forgiveness along to others who come into our halls looking for that new way of life and this is how I try to give back the love God gave me when I ask for the help to stay away from a drink one day at a time

With out service positions filled we would not have any fellowship or meetings to go to I believe that

service work is a vital part of my personal 12th step work helping others I am responsible for my own recovery but I have to give all the credit for my sobriety to God and the 12 steps

I learned from people who were active doing service for their group sharing there experience,

strength, and hope with me, reminding me what I was like before I surrendered my life and will over to Gods guidance and care

God has put people in my life and I hope to pass their love kindness along to others looking for that new way of life and this is what service work is all about cleaning up, chairing meetings, becoming a General Service Representative etc
