This is not an overnight matter. It should continue
for our lifetime. ALCOHOLIC’s ANONYMOUS, p, 84
During my early years in A.A. I saw Step Ten as a suggestion
that I periodically look at my behavior and reactions. If there was something
wrong, I should admit it; if an apology was necessary, I should give one. After
a few years of sobriety I felt I should undertake a self-examination more
frequently. Not until several more years of sobriety had elapsed did I realize
the full meaning of Step Ten, and the word "continued."
"Continued" does not mean occasionally, or frequently. It means throughout
each day.

This is
the first of the maintenance steps, once we've worked steps one through nine
our recovery should be on firm footing we can truly begin getting on with life
free of our addiction to alcohol
Keeping
Ourselves Honest is one of the purposes of step ten, daily looking at our
actions, promptly admitting when we are wrong, to make amends for the wrongs
done, lasting recovery requires on going growth, step ten is one of the best
ways to ensure we continue to develop as people
The real
acid test of recovery, we will make mistakes the tenth step gives us a
framework for the continuing but not obsessive self-evaluation, that leads to
serenity and balance, tenth step inventory can be done any way you want to do
it
I can keep track by looking at my mood and
what I'm actually doing, when I realize I'm angry, or sad or whatever, I
mentally check to see what’s going on, sometimes it's a simple as needing a
break – other times I'll realize I've allowed some resentment to build up again
in my life
This
inventory is not to be totally negative it needs balance, most times the
problem is, I set myself up to do too much, I look at what I can skip, or
postpone, I do not want to wallow in what I am do wrong but take an honest and
total look at myself
A
complete look means I see what's good about myself as well as those things I
need to change, willingness to make an instant apology when I needed to, helps
I don't mean for every little thing step ten keeps me in reality where I do not
to return to my old behaviors
Steps 10
-11-12 are the living steps of our program Doing them right will keep us from
ever returning to our past behaviors, the 10th Step can seem like it is
never-ending and when you think about it, we all make mistakes on a daily basis
So it is
ever ending in that sense, daily looking at our actions and promptly admitting
when we are wrong and to make amends for the wrongs done, step ten is one of
the best ways to ensure we continue to develop physically, emotionally, and
spiritually, maintaining sobriety in the turmoil that life brings us all at
times

bless you Al M
