A New State Of Consciousness
He has been granted a gift which amounts to a new state of consciousness and being. TWELVE STEPS AND TWELVE TRADITIONS, p 107
Many of us in A.A. puzzle over what is a spiritual awakening. I tended to look for a miracle, something dramatic and earth shattering. But what usually happens is that a sense of well-being, a feeling of peace, transforms us into a new level of awareness. That’s what happened to me. My insanity and inner turmoil disappeared and I entered into a new dimension of hope, love and peace. I think the degree to which I continue to experience this new dimension is in direct proportion to the sincerity, depth and devotion with which I practice the Twelve Steps of A.A.

Thank God
everyone does not have to have this white light spiritual experience that Bill
W had most who come in find that in going to meetings they find a spiritual
awareness in people, often friends of the newcomer are aware of the difference
long before they are
They
gradually realize that they have undergone a profound alteration in their
reaction to recovery, what takes place in a few months could seldom have been
accomplished by years of self -discipline with few exceptions members find that
they have tapped into this unsuspected inner resource
Which
they presently identify with their own conception of a Power greater than themselves,
many think this awareness of a Power greater than ourselves is the essence of a
spiritual experience some more religious members call it God-consciousness
Most
emphatically we wish to say that any alcoholic capable of honestly facing his
problems in the light of our experience can recover, provided he does not close
his mind to all spiritual concepts, he can only be defeated by an attitude of
intolerance, or belligerent denial
We find
that no one need have difficulty with the spirituality of AA, willingness,
honesty, an open mind, are the essentials of recovery, these are indispensable,
a conscious awareness that alone we cannot win the battle over alcoholism and
that no human power can help us to recover
When we
are consciously aware of our true identity we no longer feel a need to
experience emotions of anger, of resentment, of depression, victimization,
separation, or hate, we humbly recognize our oneness with our higher power
We are
able to honor the unique choices of others without allowing those choices to
violate our own well being, if I act upon the situation with a God
consciousness I do not have to go to the attackers level of insanity, I must
create another means of looking at the situation
If we
are trying to extinguish a fire, we would not throw more fuel into the flame,
anger is not extinguished with anger, bitterness is not burnt away with more
bitterness, a new way of looking is the only way to change the situation
Awareness
of my higher power helps me to give up my sense of self-justification and blame
to that of forgiveness, we are responsible for our thoughts, for our
expressions and for our actions this makes us aware of our ability to be happy
and in peace
Regardless
of what others are doing or saying, spiritually does not happen outside of us,
it is not a bacteria, or virus, spiritually is a state of mind, an awareness
that we can choose to experience our lives in God’s light and love all we have
to do is let him into our lives
God Bless you Al M
